iOS 14 beta 6 — what's new?

Apple surprisingly released iOS 14 beta 6 last week, one week after releasing iOS 14 beta 5 to developers, breaking its two-week release cycle. iOS 14 beta 6 brings refinements and tweaks to the soon to be released software.

Features and tweaks.

  • Toggle for AirPods Pro Spatial Audio that can be found in Settings/Accessibility/AirPods. At the bottom of the Settings page, you can find the "Follow iPhone" toggle. While you can turn the toggle on and off, the feature is currently not active in iOS 14 beta 6.
  • New toggle tweaks to the Alarm scroll-wheel.
  • New Maps splash-screen when first opening the app.

  • Shortcuts widget text tweaked.
  • The tall News widget has been removed.

Bug Fixes:

According to Apple's change-log, here are some notable bug fixes.

  • Encrypted APFS volumes now appear in the sidebar of the Files app
  • Control Center: The Airplane Mode indicator now reflects the current Airplane Mode status in Settings.
  • Control Center now indicates “Phone” is using the microphone for calls placed over the cellular network and over Wi-Fi networks.

With the new update, Apple is getting closer to releasing iOS 14 to the general public this fall. The exact date is still unknown, with a possible delay in view, from September to October, as the iPhone 12 series reveal event has not yet been announced.
